In this post we will offer you a more in-depth look at the structure and the content of the TOEFL iBT Test. The TOEFL iBT Test is made up of 4 sections: Reading, Listening, Speaking and Writing, with purpose each section to measure one language skill. TOEFL iBT emphasize the student's ability to use English effectively in academic settings. TOEFL iBT measures the ability of non-native speakers of English at a college level. The four sections are always given in the same order. The first two sections, Reading and Listening are multiple-choice questions, while Speaking Section requires you to give short oral presentations and the Writing Section requires you to write two short essays.

  • TOEFL iBT Test is not "computer adaptive" , which means that the questions in the test don't get harder if you do really well or easier if you get a few questions wrong.
  • TOEFL iBT uses integrated tasks that combine more than one skill, just as in real academic settings. The integrated questions ask test takers to
              - read, listen  and then speak in response to a question
          - listen and then speak in response to a question
          - read, listen and then write in response to a question
  • During the test, examines can take notes, but only on color scratch papers provided by test center. Every examine can get maximum 5 scratch papers for whole exam and for notes examines are allowed to use only PENCILS. At the end of test, all notes are collected by test administrator
  • The on-screen tool bar in each section allows you to navigate through the test with ease. The section is always listed in the upper left-hand corner of the tool bar. You will always know what question you are on and how much time is remaining in the section. It is possible to hide the clock at any time by clicking on "Hide Time". "Volume" button allows you to adjust the volume of the Listening passages. "Help" button allows you to get relevant help, when you use the  Help feature, the clock does not stop. "Next" button allows you to proceed to the next question. Once you click on Next, you can confirm your answer by clicking on OK. In the Listening section, you cannot see a question again once you click on OK.
  • You can view the entire passage when answering questions. For some questions, you need to click on "View Text" to see the entire passage. You can view all your answers by clicking on Review. This allows you to return to any other question and change your answer. You can also see which questions you have skipped and still need to answer. In the Reading section you can also click on "Back" at any time to return to the previous question.
